Today I am proud to be a Wildcat. Our students demonstrated character and compassion today that is beyond their age. First, we joined the APS Family to rally for Beaumont, Texas which was devastated by Hurricane Harvey. Our students raised over $1,000 during Homecoming Week’s Penny Wars. Then, our Senior Class took a horrible situation and made it their own. Weeks ago they selected Vegas as their hallway theme. Then, the events of Sunday happened. They decided to take the cards they were given and make a bad situation into a good one. They placed the names of all the Vegas victims on the wall with the words Our Hearts Are With Vegas. They then organized a letter writing campaign to send to the victims still recovering in the hospital. All of this was done by their choice and theirs alone. The Alpena community should be very proud of how these young people represented them and the selfless acts they demonstrated at a time that should be about them. I am proud to be not only their Principal, but a member of the community they represent. #TheAlpenaWay
