LETTER TO AHS STUDENTS:
Although all of our routines have been disrupted, we urge you to develop new routines and to focus on what you can control. We all feel better when there is predictability and rhythm in our everyday lives. Consider setting an alarm to get up and a time to go to bed, and determine what you will do in the three large chunks of the day (morning, afternoon, evening). Set some goals for the day or the week, etc.
Maintaining a clean and healthy mind is also important, as we must take care of our mental health. This also includes being vigilant and empathetic to the physical and mental health of those around you: parents, grandparents, neighbors, siblings, etc.

The counselors are working on schedules for next year. They are available to talk to via email if you need to check on something with them.
AP CLASSES:
Make sure you have read the email sent to you by your AP teacher. AP Exams will be a 45-minute exam to be taken online at home that covers 75% of the material a normal AP class would cover. They will not be multiple choice but will only be free-response that measures skills acquired in the course. Specifics for each exam will be posted on April 3.
SPRING SPORTS:
The MHSAA has said that if they cannot restart schools on April 6th, they will reassess a potential restart on April 27th. Any school resumption date after the first week of May would probably result in the cancellation of the Spring sports season. If you are a spring athlete we suggest you continue to stay in shape as best you can for when the season resumes.
PROM:
We are planning on holding Prom on April 25 at this time. Once we get more information from the Department of Education on a date when school can resume we will develop a plan on WHEN we will hold Prom. Our goal is to hold Prom regardless of when school resume to give our students that experience. If we can re-schedule Prom after a blizzard dumps 32-inches of snow in Alpena we can do it now too.
WILL WE HAVE TO MAKE THESE DAYS UP?:
As of now we have no answer to this. We will have to wait until this is all said and done on what will happen. No, you will not have to repeat this school year over (i.e. be held back). Once the Department of Education and the State Government makes a determination on how this will play out we will let everyone know what the plan is. We are treating these like snow days at this point, which is what we experienced last February. Essentially we have pushed pause on the school year and are waiting to see when we can push play.
Just remember this: Every red light turns green. This is simply a really long and frustrating red light.
Stay healthy!
Mr. Berriman
