FROM THE COLLEGE ADVISER:
- Don’t miss out on the free money you can earn by filling out the FAFSA!! Even if you’re not sure if college is right for you, it’s better to fill it out now than scrambling to fill it out later, when most of that money is gone!
- Seniors: Please let me know if you have applied to a college. The State of Michigan tracks our data and it is a big part of my job! I have free chargers and candy!
- Campus trip to Central Michigan University on Wednesday October 24th. The trip will include a free lunch in the dining hall.
- The college application and financial process can be challenging. If you need help, schedule an appointment with Ms Timmreck here
OCTOBER IS BULLYING PREVENTION MONTH:
According to new data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the suicide rate for all age groups has increased 30% over the last 19 years. Suicide rates have tripled for girls aged 10-14, the highest growth of any group. As an educator, you interact with children every day so you might be the first to notice a change in a student's behavior or overall demeanor. Most youth suicides can be prevented. School staff members who are trained and aware can often make the difference between life and death.
Check out this Cyberbullying Prevention Safety Tip video for the definition of cyberbullying and tips to help keep your school safe.
A recent study found that childhood bullying has long-term mental health consequences. Four in 10 of those surveyed "who were bullied as children have been diagnosed with a mental health condition, and 44% of them blame their childhood bullying experiences for their conditions".
